UK Sales of Xbox Series S and X See 76% Surge Following Starfield Release
The release of Starfield and the debut of a new 1TB Xbox Series S model have substantially boosted Microsoft console sales. According to data from GfK, Xbox Series S and X sales experienced a 76% week-over-week increase for the week ending September 2nd. Dorian Bloch, GfK's games division head, notes that this period marks the best sales week of 2023 so far for Xbox Series S and X hardware in the UK, with the subsequent week ending September 9th being the second-best. The new 1TB Xbox Series S edition, priced approximately £50 higher than the standard model, accounted for 24% of all Xbox console sales during that week. The launch of Starfield also contributed to the sales surge, with the standard Xbox Series X console seeing a 46% sales increase for the week ending September 2nd in the UK. Bloch comments, 'It's currently the strongest week this year for the Series X, and the following week is the fourth best for the X.' The new Series S 1TB model made up 20% of sales for the week ending September 9th, contributing to a notable performance for Xbox consoles. This uptick follows a sluggish year for Xbox hardware sales, which had declined by nearly 23% year-to-date in the UK as of the end of August.
