Embracer Group is reportedly weighing the possibility of selling Gearbox Entertainment, the studio behind the popular Borderlands series, as part of its ongoing restructuring program initiated in June. According to sources, the company has received interest from potential buyers, prompting consideration of a sale. Embracer acquired Gearbox in 2021 for $1.3 billion. The restructuring program has also affected Rainbow Studios, resulting in staff reductions. The exact number of affected employees remains unknown, but those impacted have shared the news on LinkedIn. An Embracer representative stated that the process will be managed locally, with a focus on informing affected employees first. This development follows recent layoffs at Gearbox Publishing, as well as the closure of Saints Row creator Volition Games and the shutdown of Campfire Cabal in August.
