Roblox's Chief Technology Officer Discusses AI Integration

Roblox is hosting its ninth annual Developers Conference, unveiling several key announcements, including the launch of Roblox on PlayStation and Meta Quest. The platform is also introducing Roblox Connect, a 3D communication experience, and Roblox Assistant, a conversational AI tool designed to aid creators. In an interview, CTO Daniel Sturman delves into the capabilities of the Assistant, which can help users with tasks such as importing meshes and creating scenes. Sturman emphasizes the importance of opt-in data sharing and respecting creators' rights. The company is also exploring the use of AI in moderation, acknowledging the challenges of ensuring third-party tools operate within the bounds of copyright law. Sturman believes that AI will bring new opportunities for moderation and safety, while also acknowledging the potential risks of devaluing content. To address this, Roblox is investing in economic research and developing systems to promote a healthy creator economy. Other announcements include new tools for developers to create subscriptions and an update to the Creator Marketplace, allowing creators to retain 100% of their sales.
