YouTube Introduces Playables, a New Gaming Feature in Beta

Google has initiated public beta testing for its innovative Playables feature on YouTube, designed to bring interactive gaming experiences to the video sharing platform. According to recent updates on the company's experiments, as reported by 9to5Google, the testing phase commenced on September 5, initially targeting a select group of users. These users can now access and play games directly on YouTube, using either desktop or mobile devices. Although specific details about the functionality and featured game titles are scarce, an earlier report by The Wall Street Journal hinted at a demo test of the brick-breaking arcade game Stack Bounce. previously, a Google spokesperson emphasized that gaming has always been a key focus for YouTube but declined to comment on the company's plans for Playables at the time. This new feature represents Google's latest foray into the gaming sector, coming less than a year after the discontinuation of its cloud gaming service, Stadia. The development follows comments made by former PlayStation executive Shawn Layden at the GamesIndustry.biz Investment Summit, where he identified Google as one of the non-traditional players likely to disrupt the gaming industry.
