Epic Games Store Introduces New Revenue Share Model for Exclusive Titles

In a bid to rival Steam, Epic Games has launched the First Run Program, an opt-in initiative that waives the company's 12% revenue share for the first six months after a game's release, provided it is exclusive to the Epic Games Store during that period. This program is specifically designed to compete with Valve's marketplace, and its eligibility criteria permit games to be released on consoles, mobile platforms, or through other storefronts, including those operated by developers themselves, as long as they utilize Epic's keyless distribution system. Once the six-month exclusivity window expires, or if the developer chooses to opt out earlier, Epic will revert to its standard 12% revenue cut. The program is set to commence on October 16 and will only apply to products launched on or after that date. Additionally, participating developers will receive enhanced promotional support, including exclusive badging, prominent homepage placements, and dedicated collections, as well as features in relevant store campaigns, such as sales and editorial content.
