Japanese Youth Prefer Console Gaming Over Mobile, Survey Finds

According to a recent report by Niko Partners, console gaming has emerged as the preferred platform among Japanese youth, with 72.3% of respondents aged six to 18 using consoles, compared to 63.5% for mobile gaming and 14.7% for PC. The survey, which polled over 300 parents and 90 young gamers, suggests that parents favor consoles due to better control over content. Notably, Japanese youth spend an average of 7.9 hours weekly on mobile gaming, compared to 6.5 hours on console and PC. The report also highlights that young Japanese gamers are more open to international game titles, esports, and content creators, presenting opportunities for non-Japanese gaming companies to expand in the Japanese market. Furthermore, the survey found that Japanese parents have a positive view of gaming and are likely to be gamers themselves, with 67% believing it is their responsibility to monitor their children's gaming time.
