The iconic voice behind Mario is changing, as Nintendo announces that Charles Martinet will no longer be voicing the character in their games. Instead, he will be taking on a new role as Mario Ambassador, where he will continue to spread the joy of Mario worldwide and engage with fans. This transition marks the end of an era, as Martinet has been the voice of Mario, as well as other notable characters like Luigi, Wario, and Waluigi, for nearly three decades. His iconic performance was first introduced to many players through the 1996 game Super Mario 64. Although Martinet will no longer be recording new character voices, Nintendo has expressed its gratitude for his contributions and announced that a video message from Martinet and Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto will be released at a later date. With a vast library of over five million audio files of Martinet as Mario, it is possible that Nintendo may continue to utilize these in future projects.
