Sega Completes Acquisition of Rovio Entertainment
Sega has officially finalized the acquisition of Rovio Entertainment, the renowned creator of the Angry Birds franchise. The announcement was made by Sega through its social media channels, expressing enthusiasm for the new partnership. "We are delighted to welcome Rovio to the SEGA Group family and look forward to the exciting opportunities that lie ahead," stated Sega. The acquisition, valued at €706 million ($768 million), was initially announced in April, with Sega aiming to bolster its presence in the mobile gaming sector by tapping into Rovio's expertise. According to Haruki Satomi, president and Group CEO of Sega Sammy, the move is part of Sega's long-term strategy to expand its mobile gaming business, citing the significant growth potential in this market.
