Netflix Unveils Cloud Gaming Service in Limited Beta Release

Netflix has initiated a trial run of its cloud gaming platform. As of today, a limited subset of subscribers in the UK and Canada can utilize the Netflix Game Controller app to play games directly on their televisions. According to Mike Verdu, Vice President of Netflix Gaming, the primary objective of this beta phase is to refine the company's game streaming capabilities, controller functionality, and overall user experience. Initially, only two games will be available: Oxenfree, developed by Night School Studio, which was acquired by Netflix in 2021, and Molehew's Mining Adventure. Compatible devices for this beta release include Amazon Fire TV, Chromecast, LG TVs, Nvidia Shield TV, Roku devices, Samsung Smart TVs, and Walmart ONN, with plans to expand device support in the future. In the coming weeks, the beta will also be accessible on PC and Mac via supported web browsers, allowing users to play games using a keyboard and mouse as an alternative to the app. Verdu expressed enthusiasm for making games more accessible to members worldwide by expanding device compatibility. Following the recent launch of the gamepad app for TV game play, which is currently exclusive to iOS devices, this move represents a significant step forward in Netflix's gaming endeavors.
