Rockstar Games Acquires Cfx.re, a Leading Roleplay Modding Team

In a significant development, Rockstar Games has officially acquired Cfx.re, a renowned modding team behind popular multiplayer roleplay servers for Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2. The acquisition was announced through a statement, although the specific terms of the deal remain undisclosed. Cfx.re is the creative force behind Two notable servers, FiveM and RedM, launched in 2015 and 2019 respectively, which cater to the multiplayer roleplay community. Rockstar Games expressed its enthusiasm for the partnership, stating that it will collaborate with the Cfx.re team to explore innovative ways to enhance the community experience and improve services for developers and players alike. According to Cfx.re, the day-to-day operations will remain unaffected, but with Rockstar's backing, the team will continue to refine its platform. This acquisition marks a notable shift in Rockstar's stance, as the company had previously taken a stricter approach to modding servers, including FiveM, which was once deemed an unauthorized alternate multiplayer server. However, in November 2022, Rockstar updated its policy to permit non-commercial roleplay servers that respect IP and trademarks, and do not interfere with official online services.
