Baldur's Gate 3 Developer Requests Complete List of Uncredited Localizers

An update on August 11, 2023, revealed that Altagram, the localization firm responsible for the omission, has issued an apology and committed to revising its crediting policies. In a public statement, the company acknowledged its role in the error and expressed regret for the impact it had on the affected developers. Altagram outlined seven new policies, including enhanced transparency with freelancers, partners, and clients, as well as adherence to the International Game Developers Association (IGDA) guidelines for game credits. The company will also establish a review committee to oversee its crediting process. Initially, on August 10, 2023, Larian Studios, the developer behind Baldur's Gate 3, called for a comprehensive list of Altagram's localization staff who were not credited in the game. This move was prompted by a social media post from localizer Marc E.G. regarding the missing translators. According to Larian, the error originated from the list provided by Altagram. A representative stated that the issue was solely Altagram's responsibility and that they had been urged to rectify the situation. Once Larian receives the complete list of names, the necessary changes will be incorporated into the game's next patch. The issue of proper accreditation remains a concern in the gaming industry, with recent instances including the omission of original Metroid Prime developers from the remaster's credits and the exclusion of the PC porting team and series creator from the GOG release of the Yakuza series. The Callisto Protocol also received an update to include previously uncredited former staff members. This topic was explored in a guide on properly crediting game workers, examining the underlying issues and potential solutions.
