Telltale Takes Over Flavourworks, Developer of Erica
In a recent move, Telltale has acquired Flavourworks, the studio behind the narrative-driven title Erica, for an undisclosed amount. The acquisition is attributed to the companies' mutual understanding of the intersection between film and gaming. As part of the deal, Flavourworks' CEO Zachary Slatter will assume the role of Managing Director for Europe at Telltale. Flavourworks, a UK-based mobile studio, is known for its innovative Touch Video technology, allowing users to interact with live-action footage. Telltale's CEO, Jamie Ottilie, noted that fans are seeking deeper interactions with their favorite IPs, and interactive narratives offer an immersive way to achieve this. He added that Flavourworks' technology will enable Telltale to create story-based games more efficiently and expand its reach through streaming and new platforms. Slatter expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating that Telltale is the ideal partner to maximize the value of Flavourworks' proprietary Touch Video engine. Both companies have received support from Hiro Capital, with Telltale raising $8 million earlier this year and Flavourworks being backed by the firm since 2019. Following its shutdown in 2018, Telltale was revived in 2019 by LCG Entertainment and has since launched its debut title, The Expanse: A Telltale Series, under new leadership.
