The game's trailers were taken down from YouTube due to copyright claims by Sony Interactive Entertainment, although it is unclear if Sony's complaint also led to the game's removal from the eShop. Players who previously purchased the game can still access it. The Last Hope, developed by West Connection Limited, is one of several low-budget titles that have been accused of mimicking popular games. Digital Foundry, a sister publication of GamesIndustry.biz, compared the game to a 'scam', with John Linneman stating, 'When you see something like this, it really exposes the darker aspects of the industry.'
