UK PS5 Sales See 75% Surge Following Price Reduction

A recent report from Gfk indicates that PlayStation 5 sales in the UK have experienced a significant 75% increase. This surge follows a temporary price cut, with the console's price dropping to £399. In terms of revenue, the PS5 saw a 63% week-on-week increase. The price reduction, which included some retailers offering a free game with the console, such as LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, Forspoken, and Saints Row, has contributed to the sales jump. However, it's essential to note that this price cut is temporary, and the console's price is set to revert to its original cost later this month. Interestingly, unofficial price adjustments for the PS5 began in June in the UK, with the average console price being £423 last week, only 6% lower than the previous week's £451. The Standard PS5 console was the top performer, with sales rising by 205% in units and 162% in revenue. This version accounted for 73% of total sales, with the price cut and unofficial bundles featuring games like Hogwarts Legacy, LEGO Star Wars, and Gran Turismo 7 contributing to its success. Last week marked the third-best week of the year for PS5 sales, with the console's best weeks occurring in February due to a popular God of War Ragnarok hardware bundle. Globally, the PS5 has had a strong 2023, with Sony selling ten million units since the start of the year. After overcoming initial component shortages, the console has recovered well and is now tracking slightly behind the PS4. With 40 million units sold worldwide, the PS5 has reached this milestone just two months slower than its predecessor.
