Global PlayStation 5 Sales Exceed 40 Million Units

The PlayStation 5 has achieved a significant milestone, with worldwide sales surpassing 40 million consoles, as announced by Sony. In comparison to its predecessor, the PlayStation 4, which reached the same sales figure two months earlier, the PS5's sales were hindered by component shortages that limited supply during its first two years on the market. However, the console is now widely available. Following a remarkable June in Europe, where sales increased by 116% compared to the same period in 2022, the platform has reached new heights. Additionally, PlayStation has revealed that its library now comprises 2,500 games. Having announced 30 million sales in January, Sony's next major initiative for the console is set to take place in October with the release of Spider-Man 2, accompanied by a special edition console. According to Jim Ryan, 'When we launched PlayStation 5 in November 2020, the world was vastly different from when we first announced it in 2019.
