Capcom Expands Operations with Acquisition of Support Studio Swordcanes

Capcom has completed the acquisition of Swordcanes, a Japan-based support studio, through a share purchase, making it a wholly-owned subsidiary. This move is aimed at significantly enhancing Capcom's development and technological capabilities. Swordcanes boasts expertise in 3D character modeling, environmental design, and animation, with a portfolio that includes contributions to notable titles such as Final Fantasy 16, Hi-Fi Rush, New Pokemon Snap, and the Monster Hunter series. In a separate announcement, Capcom revealed its financial results for the first quarter of its fiscal year, reporting a 74% increase in net sales to ¥43.9 billion ($312 million), largely attributed to the commercial success of Street Fighter 6, which achieved two million sales within its first month following release on June 2, 2023. This news comes on the heels of Capcom's 40th anniversary celebration, during which the company marked the milestone of approximately 500 million game titles sold worldwide.
