European Gaming Charts for the First Half of 2023: Hogwarts Legacy and Diablo 4 Take the Lead
The European gaming market saw a marginal increase in console and PC game sales during the first half of the year, with 76.1 million games sold. The UK led the way with 15.3 million games sold, representing a 5.5% rise over the same period in 2022. Germany and France followed, with 14 million and 11.1 million games sold, respectively. The sales figures show a 9% decline in physical game sales, with 29.1 million units sold, while digital downloads rose by 7% to 47 million. Hogwarts Legacy emerged as the top-selling game for the first half of the year, with sales 69% higher than Elden Ring's sales during the same period in 2022. Diablo 4 also performed well, becoming the third best-selling game despite only being available for a few weeks. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and FIFA 23 also had strong sales, with the former selling 13% more copies than Pokémon Legends: Arceus in the first half of 2022. The best-selling digital game was Hogwarts Legacy, while The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom was the top-selling physical game. The European GSD H1 2023 Top 20 chart saw Hogwarts Legacy, Diablo 4, and FIFA 23 take the top spots, followed by The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Grand Theft Auto 5.
