Roblox Introduces Subscription Model for Enhanced User Experiences
Roblox has unveiled plans to introduce a subscription-based model, enabling developers to offer exclusive content and experiences to their users. According to Enrico D’Angelo, VP of economy, this move aims to establish a recurring revenue stream for creators, thereby increasing the predictability of their earnings. The new tools will ensure a consistent flow of relevant content for users. Creators are the driving force behind Roblox's economy, having earned $624 million in 2022 and an additional $182 million in the first quarter of this year from one-time fees. The company's objective is to create a seamless and lucrative environment for all users. Future plans include the possibility of purchasing real-world goods within the platform. However, Roblox has faced criticism in the past for its advertising practices and business model, which some argue exploits its younger users. The company has also been accused of having a culture of marginalization and lacking diversity in its workforce.
