Sub-Saharan Africa's Gaming Market Reaches $863 Million in 2022
In 2022, the Sub-Saharan African gaming industry achieved a significant milestone, with consumer spending reaching $863 million. According to a recent report by Newzoo and Carry1st, this represents an 8.7% increase from the previous year. Mobile gaming dominated the market, accounting for $778.6 million, or 90% of the total gaming revenue. PC and console gaming also contributed, generating $49.4 million and $34.8 million, respectively. The report highlights the gaming revenue of major Sub-Saharan countries, including Nigeria, South Africa, Kenya, Ethiopia, Ghana, Côte d'Ivoire, Angola, Tanzania, Cameroon, and Uganda. Notably, Nigeria and South Africa led the pack, with $249 million and $236 million in consumer spending, respectively, which combined is twice the total spending of the other countries. The report also provides a comparison of gaming revenue among these countries in 2022: Kenya ($46.5 million), Ethiopia ($42.7 million), Ghana ($34.6 million), Côte d'Ivoire ($31.9 million), Angola ($26 million), Tanzania ($23.4 million), Cameroon ($17.2 million), and Uganda ($16 million). Looking to the future, the report forecasts that the Sub-Saharan African gaming market is on track to surpass $1 billion by 2024.
