Nintendo Switch Sells 2 Million Units in H1 | Japanese Monthly Sales Figures

Nintendo dominated the market for physical game sales, generating ¥28 billion ($203 million) in the first six months, accounting for 44% of the market share. Square Enix followed with ¥6.74 billion ($48.6 million), representing 10.6% of the market, while the Pokémon Company secured 7% of the market share with ¥4.68 billion ($34 million). In terms of physical game unit sales, Nintendo's Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom was the best-selling game of H1, with estimated sales of 1.7 million units. Pokémon Scarlet and Violet took second place, selling a combined 719,000 copies, while Nintendo's Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe secured third place with 451,000 units sold. In June, the Nintendo Switch sold 380,000 consoles across its various models. Famitsu's monthly retail sales data from May 29 to June 25 showed that Sony's PlayStation 5 sold 215,000 units during the five-week period. Nintendo led the software sales with 422,000 physical titles, surpassing Square Enix's 364,000 units, driven by the release of Final Fantasy 16. Capcom ranked third, selling 83,000 physical game units. The newly released Final Fantasy 16 debuted as the top-selling title of the month, with 336,000 copies sold on the PlayStation 5, while Nintendo's Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom sold 181,552 physical copies.
