Unity Introduces Safe Voice to Foster Positive Gaming Communities
Unity, a leading game engine developer, has launched Safe Voice, a cutting-edge technology designed to detect and mitigate toxic behavior in online games. The system thoroughly examines the tone, volume, and pitch of player interactions to provide game studios with valuable insights, enabling them to cultivate more positive and inclusive communities. Upon activation, typically triggered by user reports of harmful behavior, Safe Voice can also proactively monitor in-game activities that may indicate toxicity, such as sudden exits from games or the muting of other players. Furthermore, the tool generates comprehensive dashboards detailing player interactions during each session. According to Jeff Collins, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Unity Gaming Services, "The introduction of Safe Voice demonstrates our commitment to empowering game developers with the tools they need to combat toxicity and create safer, more welcoming environments for all players." Currently in closed beta, Safe Voice joins other initiatives, like Microsoft's Xbox voice reporting safety feature, in the effort to combat harm and promote a positive experience in online gaming.
