Google Play Approves NFT Integration

Google has updated its policies to permit the inclusion of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) in apps available on the Google Play store. However, apps that fail to comply with the platform's policies on real-money gambling, games, and contests will be restricted from accepting payments for opportunities to win digital assets, including cryptocurrencies. According to Joseph Mills, Group Product Manager at Google Play, developers must ensure that the value of NFTs received by users is transparent at the time of purchase, and should refrain from offering randomized blockchain-based items, such as those found in loot boxes. Additionally, Google plans to expand its support for blockchain-based applications, including secondary marketplaces. This move contrasts with Apple's more relaxed approach to blockchain technology, which allows its use as long as apps do not redirect users to external payment platforms.
