Sega of America Staffers Overwhelmingly Approve Union Formation
In a landmark decision, employees at Sega of America, united under the Allied Employees Guild Improving Sega (AEGIS), have cast their votes in favor of establishing a union, with 91 votes for and 26 against, as reported by Polygon. This development marks another significant milestone in the unionization of major North American gaming companies. AEGIS, in partnership with the Communications Workers of America, comprises staff members from various departments, including marketing, localization, and quality assurance within Sega of America. Ángel Gómez, a translator at Sega of America, expressed the sentiments of the group, stating, "Our passion for our work at SEGA has been evident throughout this campaign. With our union in place, we will be empowered to safeguard the aspects of our jobs that we cherish and work towards enhancing the benefits, compensation, and job security for all employees." This move towards unionization follows the group's election filing with the National Labor Relations Board several months ago. The primary objectives of AEGIS in forming a union included securing higher base salaries, stable benefits, and sufficient staffing to alleviate overwork. By doing so, they join the ranks of QA developers at Raven Software and Blizzard Albany, as well as Zenimax QA workers, who had their union formally recognized earlier this year.
