US Gaming and Esports Industry Valued at $54 Billion in 2022

According to a recent report by PwC, the US video game and esports market generated $54.1 billion in revenue in 2022, marking a 2.4% increase from the previous year. This growth rate, as reported by GamesBeat, is the lowest the industry has seen in five years, following an unprecedented surge during the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2022, the esports sector accounted for $455 million in revenue, while the gaming sector dominated with $53.7 billion. Within the gaming sector, social and casual gaming led the way with $37.1 billion, followed by traditional gaming, which included console and PC games, amounting to $15.3 billion. Traditional gaming experienced a slight decline of 0.7% year-over-year, whereas social gaming continued its upward trend with a 3.5% increase. Console games generated $9.4 billion and PC games $5.4 billion in 2022. On the esports front, sponsorship deals yielded the highest revenue at $167 million, followed by media rights at $126 million. Looking ahead, the US gaming market is projected to reach $72 billion in revenue by 2027.
