UK Games Fund Allocation to Rise by £5m
The UK government has unveiled a new initiative to bolster the creative industries, including enhanced financial backing for game development studios. The UK Games Fund, established in 2015 to support fledgling studios, is set to receive a £5 million boost, bringing its total to £13.4 million over the next two years. As part of a broader £77 million funding package for the creative sector, the government aims to stimulate growth of £50 billion by 2030, creating one million new job opportunities. Additional investments include the establishment of four research and development centers focused on advancing screen technology and virtual production, as well as a £50 million injection into the Creative Industries Clusters program launched in 2018. Daniel Wood, co-CEO of UKIE, remarked: 'The games industry applauds the Secretary of State's vision to enhance the creative industries. This announcement reaffirms the UK games industry's status as a driver of economic growth, generating high-quality jobs nationwide and contributing over £5 billion in GVA, with 80% of this contribution originating from outside London and the Southeast. Our industry supports 75,000 roles within the UK supply chain, encompassing a diverse range of professionals, from mathematicians and coders to artists and writers. As demand for games continues to rise and technology rapidly evolves, this initiative will help the industry attract and retain top talent.'
