Inverse has confirmed a series of layoffs impacting its editorial team, with news of the redundancies emerging through social media posts from both current and former staff members. According to the site's masthead, which lists 28 employees, at least seven have publicly announced their departure on Twitter, sparking concern over the scale of the layoffs. Inverse executive editor Jake Kleinman expressed his sentiments on Twitter, stating, "The layoffs at Inverse have been particularly severe, possibly the most severe in the five years I've been here," and encouraged other companies to hire the laid-off staff, saying, "If you brought them all together, you'd have a very impressive news team." The redundancies span multiple sections of the site, including entertainment, gaming, gear, and science, and follow Bustle Digital Group's acquisition of Inverse in 2019. This marks the fourth round of layoffs at Bustle Digital Group in the past year, as reported by Adweek, and comes after a previous round of cuts in September that included the closure of BDG's tech site, Input, with management citing a strategic decision to reallocate resources to build a stronger Inverse, as noted by The Fine Print.
