PSVR 2 Sees Impressive Sales with Nearly 600,000 Units Sold in Six Weeks

The PlayStation VR 2 has achieved remarkable sales, with nearly 600,000 units sold within the first six weeks of its launch, surpassing the sales performance of its predecessor. During a recent Sony corporate strategy meeting, the company shared insights into its gaming business, including the successful launch of the PSVR 2. Although exact figures were not disclosed, the data presented showed that the PSVR 2 outsold the original PSVR by 8% during the same period, with sales nearing the 600,000 unit mark. Beyond this initial period, the company did not provide further sales data. Earlier in the year, prior to the PSVR 2's launch on February 22, Sony had denied reports of reduced production numbers for the device. Additionally, the meeting highlighted Sony's plan to boost investment in new intellectual properties. Historically, 80% of PlayStation Studios' investment in FY19 went into existing IPs, but the company aims to achieve a more balanced approach by FY25, with 50% allocated to new IPs and 50% to established ones. This shift in strategy was announced alongside the company's financial results for FY22, which saw the PS5 ship 19 million units and a significant increase in gaming revenue, reaching $26.5 billion.
