Relic Entertainment to Undergo Restructuring, Resulting in 121 Job Cuts

Sega has confirmed that Relic Entertainment, the development studio behind the Company of Heroes series, will be undergoing a significant restructuring, resulting in the elimination of 121 positions. The decision is aimed at enabling the studio to concentrate on its core franchises. The Company of Heroes series, which recently saw the launch of its third installment on PC in February, with a console release slated for this month, is a key focus area for the studio. Relic Entertainment, based in Vancouver, has also garnered recognition for its work on the Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War series and the development of Age of Empires 4 for Microsoft in 2021. In a statement, Sega explained that the restructuring is a strategic move to ensure the studio's long-term success, despite the current challenges facing the gaming industry. The company emphasized its commitment to supporting Relic Entertainment and its franchises, including the critically acclaimed Company of Heroes series. Sega expressed its appreciation for the contributions of the departing employees and announced that it will be providing them with career transition services and severance packages. The restructuring comes nearly a decade after Sega acquired Relic Entertainment in 2013, following the bankruptcy of its previous owner, THQ. Founded in 1997, Relic Entertainment has established itself as a prominent player in the gaming industry.
