Rusty Lake Faces Discord Username Claim Issue and Warns of Potential Infringement
The verified game development studio, Rusty Lake, has encountered difficulties in claiming its desired username on Discord. This issue has prompted the studio, known for titles like Rusty Lake Hotel, to caution fellow indie game developers about the potential risks of not securing their preferred usernames. In a Twitter post, the studio expressed its surprise and concern upon discovering that its preferred username, 'rustylake', was already taken, despite having a server with over 240,000 members. The studio warns that this could lead to impersonation and potential lawsuits due to trademark infringement. The issue has arisen after Discord introduced changes to its username policy in May, which included removing the four-digit suffix from display names. The studio's experience with Discord's support has been somewhat unhelpful, with automated response emails directing them to another helpdesk for further assistance.
