Introducing the Access Controller: Sony's Latest Innovation for PlayStation 5 Accessibility

Sony has released further information about its groundbreaking PlayStation 5 accessibility controller, now officially known as the Access controller. In a recent post on the official PlayStation Blog, Hideaki Nishino, senior vice president of platform experience, unveiled new images of the controller and its components. The device features an array of interchangeable button and stick caps in various sizes and shapes, allowing players to tailor their layout to suit their individual needs and preferences. The Access controller offers versatile usage options, including placement on a flat surface, 360-degree orientation, or mounting on an AMPS or tripod. Additionally, the distance between the stick and buttons can be adjusted for optimal comfort. A separate blog post delves deeper into the controller's hardware features. Nishino also shared details about the Access user interface, which enables users to personalize their settings, configure their preferred device orientation, and create customized control profiles. Furthermore, the executive announced that up to two Access controllers and one DualSense wireless controller can be combined to function as a single controller. The development of the Access controller was facilitated through collaborations with accessibility experts and organizations, including AbleGamers, SpecialEffect, and Stack Up, and was initially unveiled at CES in January.
