App Store Spending in 2022 Dominated by Mobile Games

According to Data.ai's State of App Revenue 2023 report, mobile gaming accounted for $110 billion of the total $167 billion spent on the App Store in 2022. The revenue breakdown was divided among 50% from iOS, 27% from Google Play, and 23% from third-party stores in China. In-app purchases made up nearly all of mobile game revenue, at 98%. Candy Crush Saga ranked among top-grossing apps in the US, earning $660 million, surpassed only by YouTube at $770 million and followed by HBO Max at $580 million. Roblox and Coin Master trailed behind, with $550 million and $300 million in US revenue, respectively.
