Ubisoft's Financial Results Fall Short of Expectations
Ubisoft has released its financial report for the year ending March 31, revealing a decline in net bookings that surpassed initial expectations. Key figures include: - Sales: €1.81 billion, representing a 15% year-over-year decrease - Net bookings: €1.74 billion, down 18% from the previous year - Net losses: €495 million, a significant drop from the previous year's €80 million profit - Q4 sales: €311 million, down 56% year-over-year - Q4 net bookings: €313 million, a 53% decline from the previous year The company had previously revised its full-year net bookings growth forecast from 10% to a decline of more than 10% due to disappointing holiday sales, game cancellations, and the initiation of a cost-cutting plan. Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot stated that the 18% decline in net bookings was in line with the company's revised guidance. The fourth quarter release slate included titles such as Anno 1800, Oddballers, and The Settlers: New Allies, as well as seasonal updates for existing live service games. Guillemot noted that despite the challenges faced by the industry and the company, Ubisoft reinforced its strategic focus, initiated a cost reduction plan, and provided additional development time for its content pipeline. The company plans to increase the number of developers working on the Assassin's Creed brand by 40% over the coming years. The Assassin's Creed franchise achieved a record number of active users, with Valhalla's lifetime net bookings surpassing those of Origins and Odyssey. Other notable performances included a 30% year-over-year increase in playtime for Rainbow Six Siege and a 36% increase in net bookings for The Division. As part of its cost-cutting efforts, Ubisoft reduced its employee headcount through targeted restructuring and recruitment control. The company forecasts an 18% year-over-year decline in net bookings for the first quarter, with a projected €240 million. For the full year, Ubisoft expects strong growth in net bookings, driven by a lineup of releases including Assassin's Creed: Mirage, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, and Skull and Bones.
