Amazon Partners with Embracer to Develop New Lord of the Rings MMO
Amazon has announced a new partnership with Embracer Group to develop and publish a massively multiplayer online game set in J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings universe. The game will be developed by Amazon Games Orange County, the studio behind New World, and is slated for release on PC and consoles, although no release date has been confirmed. In an interview, Christoph Hartmann, Amazon Games' vice president, expressed his ambition to make the game the largest MMO available, aiming to attract both traditional gamers and new players who are fans of the Lord of the Rings series. The game will feature stories and characters from both The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, with a focus on making it accessible and enjoyable for a wide range of players. This project marks Amazon's second attempt at creating a Lord of the Rings MMO, following the cancellation of a previous project in 2021 due to licensing issues.
