Activision Blizzard Reports Progress in Diversity Efforts for 2022
Activision Blizzard has released its annual Environmental, Social, and Governance report, highlighting the company's initiatives to enhance diversity and reduce its environmental footprint in 2022. According to Brian Bullatao, chief administration officer, 'The gaming industry's influence can only be fully realized by attracting and retaining top talent from diverse backgrounds and fostering an inclusive work environment.' Despite facing a gender discrimination lawsuit since 2021, the company has made efforts to address diversity concerns. As of November 2022, 26% of employees identified as women or non-binary, up from 24% the previous year. The company aims to increase this percentage to 36% by 2026, with 32% of new hires in 2022 identifying as women, non-binary, or 'something else.' Additionally, the percentage of white employees decreased from 64% in 2021 to 61% in 2022, while the proportion of white managers dropped from 70% to 68%. However, the company still struggles with retention, as non-male and non-white employees left at higher rates than their representation in the company. In 2022, women accounted for 27% of voluntary departures despite making up 25% of the workforce, while non-white and multiracial employees comprised 42% of departures but only 39% of the overall workforce. In response to these concerns, Activision Blizzard has hired a chief diversity, equity, and inclusion officer, as well as a head of inclusive game design and a chief ethics and compliance officer. The company has also established a decarbonization roadmap to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050 and plans to publish employee promotion rates by gender and race in its next report.
