Unity Announces Significant Restructuring with 600 Job Cuts
Unity has announced a major restructuring effort, involving the elimination of 600 positions, which accounts for approximately 8% of its global workforce, reducing its staff to around 7,000 employees. Alongside this, the company plans to downsize its physical presence by consolidating its offices from 58 to under 30 in the coming years. According to Unity CEO John Riccitiello, this move is aimed at streamlining the organization and eliminating redundant management layers to position the company for enhanced growth. Additionally, Unity is set to implement a hybrid work model, requiring employees to work from the office at least three days a week starting September. This latest round of layoffs follows previous cuts, including the loss of around 200 jobs in June and nearly 300 in January. Despite these challenges, Unity achieved its first non-GAAP profitable quarter since its inception in 2004, marking a significant milestone for the company.
