Sony Targets Record-Breaking 25 Million PS5 Sales by April 2024
Sony has set an ambitious goal to sell 25 million PlayStation 5 units by the end of the current fiscal year, which would surpass previous records for PlayStation console sales within a single financial year. According to the company's CFO, Hiroki Totoki, this target is achievable due to the existing PS4 customer base and the anticipated switch to PS5, as well as the arrival of new customers. Key releases, such as Marvel's Spider-Man 2, and the expansion of PC titles are expected to drive PlayStation's business forward. Totoki emphasized the importance of hardware in the gaming experience, while also acknowledging the potential for cloud-based computing in the future. The company's revenue growth is attributed to increased game development costs, live service launches, and strategic acquisitions, which are intentionally driving up expenses to enhance the gaming experience.
