Vice to Discontinue Waypoint

Vice has announced that it will be discontinuing its gaming-focused publication, Waypoint. The news was first revealed on Twitter by senior writer Patrick Klepek, who stated that the team had been terminated and would be ending all operations, including the website, podcasts, and streams, on June 2nd. This confirmation came from Waypoint's official Twitter account shortly after. Klepek reflected on the site's history, saying it should have ended sooner, but credited the support of fans and the success of Waypoint+ for allowing it to survive for six years. The publication was initially launched in 2016 as an offshoot of Vice's gaming section and had more recently introduced a premium subscription service. This development follows a series of layoffs and closures in the gaming media industry, including the shutdown of The Washington Post's gaming section and layoffs at GameSpot and Giant Bomb.
