Gaming Industry Sees Demand for Film and TV Adaptations

A significant proportion of gamers, approximately 45%, expressed a desire for more video games to be developed from popular films and television series, according to Deloitte's Digital Media Trends survey. The study, which polled 1,197 gamers, found that this interest in adaptations is driven by fans wanting to engage with their favourite stories in new ways. Furthermore, the survey discovered that 44% of gamers choose to play specific video games after being inspired by certain TV shows or movies. The report also highlighted the role of video games in music discovery, with 49% of gamers stating they often find new music while playing. In terms of social interaction, 40% of younger respondents, including Gen Z and Millennials, reported socializing more through video games than in real life. Additionally, these age groups felt more confident and had a better self-image in virtual environments, with 49% and 73% reporting positive effects on self-image and confidence, respectively. In contrast, older generations, including Gen X, Boomers, and Matures, showed less inclination towards socializing in games and experienced fewer positive effects on their self-perception. The survey further revealed that committed gamers, as opposed to casual gamers, place greater importance on meeting friends in video games, with 62% considering it a key aspect of their social lives.
