Ubisoft+ Launches on Xbox, Aims to Compete with Game Pass

The Ubisoft+ subscription service has officially launched on Xbox consoles, marking a significant milestone in the company's plan to expand its previously PC-exclusive service. Initially introduced as Uplay+ in 2019, Ubisoft+ has since rebranded and debuted on cloud gaming platforms such as Stadia and Amazon Luna via its Multi-Access tier, which is now available on Xbox. For $14.99 per month, the standard subscription offers access to the full library on PC, while the $17.99 Multi-Access tier allows subscribers to play select titles across multiple platforms, including PC, Luna, Xbox, and eventually PlayStation, with the ability to carry over sessions between platforms. Ubisoft+ Director Philippe Tremblay believes the rise of subscription services presents a key opportunity for the company to reach new gamers and make its games more accessible. The Multi-Access tier is seen as a unique offering in the market, and Tremblay highlights the investment made in the Ubisoft Connect system, particularly in enabling cross-progression. While Ubisoft+ faces competition from Xbox Game Pass, Tremblay is confident in the service's content and its ability to attract subscribers. Ubisoft+ features over 100 games from the company's 37-year history, including popular franchises like Assassin's Creed, Far Cry, and Tom Clancy, as well as indie titles and family-friendly games. The service also offers premium editions of blockbuster games, including DLC and additional content, with new releases added at launch. Tremblay emphasizes the importance of content variety and the company's efforts to bring more indie games to the platform. As Ubisoft+ expands to more platforms, the company plans to ramp up its promotional efforts, and Tremblay believes the service will become more prominent and relevant to a broader range of gamers.
