Steam Deck Projected to Surpass 3 Million Console Sales in 2023, According to Omdia

According to a recent report by Omdia, Valve's Steam Deck is expected to achieve a significant sales milestone, with its total console sales reaching over 3 million units by the end of 2023. The research firm also estimates that the handheld gaming PC sold approximately 1.6 million units in 2022. Omdia senior analyst James McWhirter noted that while the Steam Deck remains a niche product within the PC gaming market, this is unlikely to hinder Valve's plans, which extend beyond hardware sales. The report highlights the device's limited retail availability as a major weakness, as it primarily targets dedicated Steam users. Following its launch, Valve announced in October 2022 that the Steam Deck was available for purchase and had begun accepting pre-orders in several countries, including Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and Hong Kong.
