Savvy Games Group Purchases Scopely in $4.9 Billion Deal
In a recent announcement, Scopely revealed that it has entered into an agreement to be acquired by Savvy Games Group in a transaction valued at $4.9 billion. As the publisher of popular mobile titles such as Marvel Strike Force, Stumble Guys, and Star Trek: Fleet Command, Scopely represents the latest addition to Savvy's portfolio of gaming investments. Following the acquisition, Scopely will continue to operate autonomously under Savvy's ownership. The deal is expected to enable Scopely to expand its expertise in live services to new areas, including PC, console, and various genres of gameplay. Scopely co-founder Walter Driver highlighted the shared vision between the two companies, stating that "Savvy Games Group shares our long-held conviction that companies that foster deep relationships with their players will ultimately succeed." Driver expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, noting that "together, we will be able to further push the boundaries of play, continuing to craft beloved gaming experiences for players worldwide." Last year, Savvy unveiled plans to invest nearly $38 billion in establishing Saudi Arabia as a global gaming and esports hub by 2030, allocating $13 billion for the acquisition of a major publisher. Although the Scopely purchase does not exhaust these funds, a representative characterized the deal as a fulfillment of this objective. Saudi Arabia's gaming initiatives have also involved investments in Embracer Group, Nintendo, Capcom, Nexon, SNK, and esports organizations such as VSPO and ESL Gaming. As a subsidiary of the Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF), Savvy Games Group is led by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who serves as the chairman of its board of directors.
