Turkey's Gaming Industry Sees Revenue Plummet in 2022

In 2022, the Turkish gaming market generated $625 million in consumer revenue, marking a 48% decline from the previous year. This downturn is largely attributed to the Turkish lira's 42% depreciation against the US dollar. Key statistics include: total revenue of $625 million, down 47.9% year-over-year; mobile revenue of $275 million, down 55.64% year-over-year; PC revenue of $175 million, down 41.67% year-over-year; and console revenue of $175 million, down 37.5% year-over-year. Ozan Aydemir, President and CEO of Gaming In Turkey, noted that despite stable per capita purchasing power, the industry's turnover decreased due to the currency's devaluation. The average dollar rate increased from 8.9 TL in 2021 to 16.58 TL in 2022, impacting the industry. Although gamers continued to spend money on their hobby, the value of their expenditures decreased. Notably, AAA titles on PC and consoles were priced between 800-1500 Turkish lira ($41.60 to $78), leading consumers to rely on discounts and seasonal sales. The market report also highlighted 23 gaming investment deals totaling $424.7 million in 2022, with 606 active gaming start-ups operating in the sector.
