Elden Ring and God of War Ragnarök Dominate the GDC 2023 Awards
The game development community came together in San Francisco to recognize outstanding achievements in game design and beyond, with Elden Ring and God of War Ragnarök leading the pack at the Game Developers Choice Awards. FromSoftware's Elden Ring received three awards, including the prestigious Game of the Year award, as well as honors for Best Design and Best Visual Art. Meanwhile, Sony San Diego's God of War Ragnarök won the Audience Award, in addition to awards for Best Audio and Best Technology. The Lifetime Achievement award was presented to John Romero, acknowledging his enduring contributions to the industry, including his work on Doom, Quake, and Wolfenstein. The Pioneer Award was posthumously awarded to Mabel Addis, a trailblazer in the field and often credited as the first female video game designer, known for her 1964 title The Sumerian Game. On the same stage, the Independent Games Festival awards took place, with Cosmo D Studios' Betrayal At Club Low taking home both the Nuovo Award and the Seumas McNally Grand Prize.
