Meta Introduces Oculus Publishing as Meta Quest Store Revenues Surpass $1.5 Billion
Meta has officially announced the launch of Oculus Publishing, its dedicated virtual reality game publishing division. The new entity will collaborate with game development studios, offering financial support, production expertise, and promotional services. This development comes almost a decade after Facebook acquired Oculus in 2014. To date, the publishing unit has financially supported the development of more than 300 games, including notable titles such as Among Us VR, Blade & Sorcery: Nomad, and Bonelab. According to Aaron Davies, head of content at Oculus Publishing, 'The growth of the Meta Quest Store has been remarkable, with over 500 titles now available.' Davies also revealed that 'customers have spent in excess of $1.5 billion on games and apps, with 40 titles generating more than $10 million in revenue, and the number of titles reaching the $20 million revenue mark has doubled year-over-year.' This news emerges a month after Meta reported significant losses in its VR segment for 2022, and follows the recent announcement of company-wide layoffs affecting 10,000 staff members by the end of the year.
