GameStop Experiences Slight Decline in Revenue for 2022, Reaching $5.93 Billion
GameStop, a major video game retailer, reported a 1.4% decline in revenue for the fiscal year 2022, with net sales totaling $5.93 billion. In contrast, the company's fourth quarter saw net sales of $2.2 billion, representing a 1.2% decrease from the same period in the previous year. The financial results for the 12-month period ending January 28, 2023, revealed the following key figures: net sales of $5.9 billion, down 1.4% year-over-year, and a net loss of $313 million, which is an improvement from the $381.3 million loss in 2021. The hardware and accessories segment accounted for $3.14 billion in revenue, a 1% decrease, while software sales declined 9.5% to $1.82 billion. In the fourth quarter, net sales reached $2.2 billion, down 1.24% year-over-year, with a net income of $48.2 million, marking a significant turnaround from the $147 million net loss in the same period in 2021. The collectibles business segment was a bright spot, with a 17% increase in revenue to $964.6 million in 2022. Hardware and accessories accounted for 53% of the company's earnings, while video game software comprised 31% of net sales. The fourth quarter saw a 4.5% increase in hardware and accessories revenue, reaching $1.24 billion, and a 12% increase in collectibles revenue, totaling $313.2 million.
