Microsoft's ID@Xbox Initiative Surpasses $4 Billion in Developer Payouts Over the Past Decade

In a milestone achievement, Microsoft's ID@Xbox program has paid out more than $4 billion to developers since its inception in 2013. The program's director, Chris Charla, reflected on the past decade, highlighting key accomplishments and upcoming initiatives. ID@Xbox has enabled the release of over 3,000 titles, with an additional 3,000 games currently in active development. The program has attracted more than 5,000 studios from over 100 countries, a significant increase from the 200 studios that joined in the first year. Microsoft is introducing a retail disc publishing program, allowing developers to produce physical copies of their games with minimal order quantities. Additionally, the company is streamlining the submission process for ID@Xbox and Xbox Game Pass, providing developers with a template for concept submission and review. The ID@Xbox Developer Acceleration Program aims to further support independent developers, with more details to be shared in the upcoming newsletter. Charla emphasized the importance of independent games to the Xbox ecosystem, stating that they are 'foundational to the Xbox offering.' The company is committed to improving its services for independent developers, including discovery, promotion, and data sharing.
