Xbox Enhances Developer Program to Empower Diverse Creators

Microsoft's Xbox has revamped its program to provide support to underrepresented game developers. Initially launched in 2019, the program has already provided funding for porting to over 100 independent game developers, enabling the creation of titles such as Onsen Master, ValiDate, and Paper Ghost Stories 7PM. The revamped ID@Xbox Developer Acceleration Program will continue to offer non-recoupable porting funding without requiring Xbox exclusivity or company equity. Additionally, it now includes access to Microsoft's monthly Green Room webinars, which cover topics such as marketing, certification, and more. The company has not imposed any limits on the number of developers who can participate in these two aspects of the program. A new prototype fund has been introduced, currently in its pilot phase with limited participation. The goal of this fund is to provide developers with funding and support to create a prototype, which can then be used to pitch their game to potential partners. This fund is also non-recoupable. Xbox aims to make this program accessible to all, with a focus on collaborating with developers from diverse backgrounds, including Black, Indigenous, Latino, or LGBTQIA+ communities, women, developers with disabilities, and those from emerging markets. This also includes independent developers working on games that prioritize accessibility and feature diverse characters. Some titles from the program are featured in the current ID@Xbox Online Demos, launched alongside GDC this week. Developers interested in participating can email IDAP@Microsoft.com for more information.
