Team17 Implements Restructuring, Resulting in Job Losses
Team17, a prominent independent games label, has undergone staff layoffs as part of a broader effort to restructure its business operations. According to a report by Eurogamer, employees were informed of the impending redundancies during a meeting, citing the company's need to adapt its business model. In a statement provided to GamesIndustry.biz, a Team17 representative explained, "As we strive to better support our development partners and drive growth for our owned IP, we are re-aligning certain aspects of our studio operating model. "Although this may lead to a limited number of redundancies, we have various job openings across the company and will be supporting and encouraging affected colleagues to apply for these positions." This development comes a year after reports surfaced detailing subpar working conditions at the company, as shared by current and former employees. The news of Team17's job cuts coincides with a larger trend of workforce reductions in the gaming industry, including Amazon's recent announcement to cut 9,000 jobs, affecting over 400 Twitch employees.
