WWE 2K23 Takes the Top Spot in UK Boxed Charts, Ending Hogwarts Legacy's Reign
The UK's best-selling physical video game title has been claimed by WWE 2K23, marking the end of Hogwarts Legacy's five-week reign. Launch sales for 2K's latest game were 26% lower than those of WWE 2K22, possibly due to pent-up demand from fans for the previous title, which was the first in the series in over two years. This data only accounts for physical sales, and digital sales may help bridge the gap. The sales breakdown for WWE 2K23 reveals that 53% of boxed sales were on PS5, 23% on PS4, 15% on Xbox Series S and X, and 9% on Xbox One, with the Xbox Series figure expected to rise once digital data is included, partly due to strong sales of the digital-only Xbox Series S console. Hogwarts Legacy dropped to No.2 with a 24% decline in sales, while FIFA 23 took the No.3 spot with a 26% drop. The next two titles, both for Nintendo Switch, saw sales increases, with Mario Kart 8: Deluxe rising 3% and Metroid Prime: Remastered experiencing a 24% surge in its third week, a notable feat for a recently launched game. Super Mario Odyssey re-entered the Top Ten at No.9, with a significant sales boost of 55% the previous week and a 40% increase this week, attributed to its inclusion in a new Nintendo Switch hardware bundle. Other new releases, such as Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon, The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Azure, and Signalis, debuted at Nos. 21, 24, and 27, respectively.
