Facepunch Studios Cancels GDC Gathering Due to Safety Concerns
Facepunch Studios, the UK-based developer of the popular survival game Rust, has cancelled its planned meetup with attendees at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco due to a threat made against its staff. The studio announced the cancellation via Rust's Twitter account, citing the need to prioritize the safety of its developers. Instead, the company will engage with attendees and review portfolios through email. According to Rust producer Alistair McFarlane, threats against the studio have become commonplace, with community-facing staff receiving them daily, often from disgruntled players and cheat makers who target individual staff members.
